Pros

Decent 401k match Remote work friendly

Cons

Pay is significantly lower than the area average Office politics plays a huge roll in your work load ( management won't give you project work if they don't like you) There is no training structure in place for new engineers, expected to be immediately self sufficient Optional corporate events are actually mandatory if you want to get work assigned to you Extremely high employee turnover (went through 3 managers and a handful of coworkers in 2 years) Questionable business ethics (was told by management to work extra hours to make up for internal company meetings since those hours were not billable or to bury hours into random projects)

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take all comments seriously and strive to foster both personal and professional growth. Our compensation is regularly reviewed and benchmarked against market data, ensuring it remains competitive. Project assignments are based on business needs, skills, and availability, not personal preferences. While we value independence, we provide resources and mentorship for new engineers and are enhancing our onboarding process to offer even greater support. Participation in corporate events is entirely optional, though they are often praised as valuable opportunities for networking and team-building. We consistently maintain a low turnover rate, exceeding industry benchmarks, with strong leadership stability. Integrity and transparency are core values, and employees are never encouraged to misreport hours. We encourage anyone with concerns to use our established reporting channels. Our Top Workplace designation reflects the positive environment and satisfaction of our employees. We remain committed to continuous improvement and welcome further discussion to address any concerns.

Great culture, great opportunities with some pitfalls

Pros

I have been at Matrix for years now and have gotten many opportunities and grown within the company. It does feel like like a great culture and great place to work. Compared to past employers, there is no micro-management, many opportunities to move up, and a lot of transparency. I know not everyone believes this but in my department, my manager helps exhibit all of those pros.

Cons

The medical insurance is awful. I have run into some health issues other the past couple of years and am finding that UMR covers virtually none of the expenses, and if they do it is very little. I have had to pay thousands of dollars out of my own pocket. I am now going to have to search for my own health insurance because UMR that Matrix provides is not covering any of my x-rays, echocardiogram, or the medication that I need. I bring this up because the health insurance is something that is brought up to management at every single town hall. Employees are not happy with it, and whenever it is brought up to management to respectfully reconsider looking into other options we are always met with responses such as "our competitors offer similar plans..." and xyz on why they are keeping UMR. I really think they need to reconsider this approach because this health insurance is not good, and the employees are trying time and time again to tell management that and they refuse to hear their feedback. I would rather pay more a month so I don't get a $800 medical bill. It feels as though Matrix is going with the cheapest health insurance plan for them and making their employees suffer with the consequences.

Thank you for your feedback! Our medical plan is a High Deductible Health Plan. After your deductible is met, most in-network services are covered at 100%. Along with premium deductions that are below industry benchmark, our plan includes a generous Health Savings Account contribution provided by Matrix. This HSA contribution offsets 1/2 of the annual individual deductible. If a plan member stays in-network and leverages HSA dollars, the annual out of pocket max is very reasonable. Please reach out to the Matrix Benefits Coordinator to discuss your specific healthcare situation.

Pros

It is all about the environment and culture. The company doesn't just have a list of values that you review in orientation and never see again. Everyone is reminded of the values of the week every week through intentional company messages. People are hired who embrace the values (one is about having fun!) Employees live the values.

Cons

It's sometimes hard for administrative professionals to understand the complexities of an engineering business.
