Pros

It does not matter what team you are on within the organization, everyone is extremely motivated, kind, respectful, and willing to work together to solve problems. Most, if not everyone, is very open-minded to receiving feedback and working through problems, even if you disagree. There is very much a common thread, that is set by the management team, to move together towards toward a common goal. The most important part of that is knowing what our goal is in the first place. The management team as done a great job sharing information freely and setting clear expectations!

Cons

The company has gotten big enough, that a lot of decisions and the process of coming to a decision, are largely done outside the context of most people. There is a LOT of information floating around, either about different aspects of the product, a process, or detailed information about something that is not shared. It is hard to piece together what people are working on and how much overlap / pre-existing work has been done. They need to do a better job of knowledge management and sharing information about day to day work, as they do a good job already of the high level goals.

Pros

Maxwell has a vision unlike an other tech company in the benefits space. The team that is striding to make that vision a reality is a family of energetic and intelligent people that all share the common goal of fixing the broken healthcare system. Under the leadership of Veer, the Maxwell team has all the tools it needs to have a successful 2016. If your looking for a company that is transparent, Maxwell is for you. The company invests a lot of time in ensuring it's employees understand the company objectives. There are bi-annual retreats that allow for collaboration across teams and time to reflect on the previous quarter. The benefits offered are extremely generous such as a fully stocked kitchen, benefits fully covered, transit reimbursement and gym reimbursement. The location is great since it's located a block from the park street t-stop. It should be interesting to see what Maxwell has in store for the benefits world in 2016.

Cons

- The hours can be demanding at times.

Make Your Own Destiny

Pros

The company is small, agile, innovative, and full of the most intelligent people I've ever met and/or worked with. The various backgrounds of the employees brings a culture of drive, purpose, and excellence. The expectations are high, failure is accepted, but you need to pick up and move on. The founders are some of the most intelligent, generous, and caring individuals I've ever met and worked for. A good chunk of people are remote, and they make every effort to keep those employees engaged as much as possible. You won't feel lonely very often.

Cons

These aren't cons in my perspective, but should be considered heavily: The hours are long. Sometimes not, but others they are. You don't always get to choose when this happens. Flexibility is a must. They will be flexible with you, but you should also be prepared to work until the work is "done". It is a growing company, not everything is figured out. This means opportunity to me, but can mean confusion and/or chaos to another person. Everyone who works here has a responsibility to contribute, it can be a lot of pressure. You will not be handed a promotion, raise, or additional perks just for doing a good job and working hard. If you want them, you will need to speak up. You control your destiny, and that isn't something very many people are comfortable with. The interview process is intense, but this kind of work requires resilient people. You will need to be able to demonstrate that, and the first step is the interview process. Self starting is a must, especially if you are remote.
