Pros

The orientation made me excited to work for this system. I have heard other hospitals in this system are better, but this is a review for Southwest Hospital.

Cons

Not a lot of team work between departments and with coworkers, nurses take a lot of short cuts, seemed unsafe to me. The culture of the unit was very lazy. As a nurse I was constantly stocking items and cleaning rooms. (no one else was, people leave there supplies everywhere) They keep hiring nurses and the new nurses quit within a year. I now understand why, I am leaving after only 6 months of being there.

Pros

Southwest Trauma Center is on the way to Level II Designation. Night team is a cohesive group of individuals. You are treated like family.

Cons

Did not receive time and a half for disaster pay during Harvey. Very high volume and fast paced. Very little positive recognition. Low pay grade compared to other Memorial Hermann facilities. Unsafe monitoring devices. Unreliable amount of equipment or supplies. Nursing staff has high turnover ~ 1 yr.
