Some good and bad

Pros

Largest health system in Houston area gives you many facilities to apply to. Pay is competitive, great work culture a values.

Cons

Everyone I work with says health insurance isn't great. For a dept where almost everyone works 5 days a week, employees have a difficult time taking care of their health needs because management can hardly let anyone off, leave early or come in late if they have an appt. So therefore you have health insurance and can hardly use it.

Phlebotomists and Lab techs Beware! *MHSE*

Pros

Great pay and all hospital employees are about providing the best patient care there is. Team work is definitely visible here in the actions of Southeast Memorial. Under a different Director I would recommend many to work here.

Cons

Medical insurance, dental insurance: both plans are terrible. If you're able to obtain medical/dental coverage elsewhere I strongly recommend doing so. Laboratory Management is a joke. Immediate managers are great. Shift supervisors are your greatest ally while the Director is constantly looking for a way to cut corners and bring you down while pasting a fake smile on and pretending to be a friend. Do NOT turn your back: for you will find yourself in a position of uncertainty or discrimination. While Memorial Hermann boasts about keeping a good work/life balance in their goals, the Director does not. This person believes work is first and life and family come second. Therefore, if you wish to work at MHSE Lab, know that you will have no family time. You will not see your kids, you will not have dinner with them if you work second or third shift. If you work first you will see them briefly at night before going to bed to be up at a time that should be unacceptable anywhere else and start the entire day all over again. And while being told that we are always looking for amazing talent to join our team; we are forced to work off a skeleton crew (2nd and 3rd shifts) and told to work harder as we are expected to do the work load of 2-3 people. At the same time, first shift is always fully staffed and the Director has a hard time understanding the needs of the lab due to the fact the Director has never held a phlebotomy position, or a lab tech position. Nor does the Director even attempt to help process if said positions are stretched to the bare minimums. With the way the lab is now and how it is run, I would not recommend anyone to work here.
