Pros

Great opportunities for advancement from within. Individual store atmosphere builds great teamwork building skills. Income is very competitive.

Cons

Micromanagement from corporate level. Everyone is replaceable has become a theme. Fear is the greatest form of motivation used from senior supervisors. No flexibility in scheduling or juggling of family life.

Pros

The people are usually really nice; angry customers are fairly rare. There isn't a lot of paperwork. Pay is really good if you don't have a college degree and advancement is really easy and there is ample opportunity within the company. The company is growing and the owner buys employees birthday and holiday gifts.

Cons

If you have a college degree chances are that you can make more elsewhere. Advancement usually isn't that large of a pay increase but involves moving where the opportunity is... which can be states away. Manager bonuses are based on making payroll to sales which can be tricky for smaller departments and on meeting an inventory audit which can be messed up by something as small as someone having the item in their cart at the time of audit.

Pros

If you are a manager you get alot of bonuses, payroll, inventory, Instant Profit Sharing is good, starts at 2.5% of your salary if you work over 1000 hours and goes up 2.5% each year to a max of 15%, this compounds each year. Weekend pay for all employees is $2.50 extra an hour over base wage same goes for holidays, if they let you work weekends and holidays. Christmas bonus starts at $11 and goes up $22 every year to a max of $230 Full-time pay is maxed out around $12-13ish, general managers are about $15-16. This does not include management bonuses. Most managers will make about $45,000-55,000. Assistant General Managers are around $75,000-85,000, General Managers $120,000-150,000. Average full-time employee is about $35,000-40,000, Part-time pay is maxed out at $10/hr, forklift license gets you extra .50 an hour. Very flexible hours for part-time workers especially if you are in college or just want to work a few hours a week, not so much when you are full-time. Weekly paychecks are good.

Cons

Health insurance is costly here up to $5,000 gross a year and switching carriers is common. They do not match their 401k, hours can be irregular, vacation requests denied, writeups are common and for small infractions, managers will leave you with a mess to clean up, payroll is constantly being brought up, some lower management is egotistical, too many policies being implemented, store managers look for something to complain about. They want more work in less hours, with less people doing the work.
