Be prepared to jump in a back hole Most of the scientists are mediocre and are executing management decision They are not willing to get and keep talent as they are too demanding and more difficult to manage and prefer let them go Many decisions are purely based on politics, state of the art science is not driving any decision Management is not inspiring at all and is here to dictate what to do and at the end is not even able to take any good decisions I worked there for 18 months and I've never seen a pharm company behaving that way in the decision process

Merck is like the Titanic. It is so old, so processes- and paperwork-plagued, that it is not possible to change its course, even if a big business iceberg is right upfront. For the employees who'd like to see changes and innovation, there is no hope, only despair... And career is blocked, because you can get up only if you are as old in the company as the dinosaur you would replace (30+ years is common in upper management)
