Pros

Really great people at Director level and below. Knowledgeable, friendly, good work ethic. They make it all happen!

Cons

Atmosphere since 2022 has become increasingly toxic. Many more instances of unethical behavior and unprofessionalism by Executive directors and VPs. Good employees have started just “disappearing” with no explanation as to what happened and why they’re gone. Found out later they were laid off due to unannounced downsizing with no plan on how their work would be covered. Cannot work like this, which I believe is the point- to push folks out so the company doesn’t have to pay severance. Beware!

Pros

- You will find some good friends - Great diversity and Inclusion

Cons

- No promotion or growth. - Leads makes sure you understand that contractors are below Merck staff - Only 45 min of Lunchtime - No matter if you excel above and beyond, your work will not be recognized - Management does not know how to lead - Communication and comprehension are at the very minimum. ( You can talk to them but expect almost zero understanding on their part) - Sanctions are group based - Leads and management do Micromanagement - Some leads are disrespectful to you as individual - The lead lies to upper management and uses you as a scapegoat - Stressing environment - The system in place does not work - The leads follow you when you step out for bathroom breaks or personal phone calls - They want you to be a brainless puppet - You have to cover your @ss with the leads, everything you converse with them has to be documented for your own good

Pros

Free parking Looks good on CV

Cons

Virtually no one from my year was allowed/able to publish any work. Phony reasons why publications are pushed back (Merck' agenda for postdocs: patent first, then publish... How's that supposed to work?) Was part of a department where the majority of employees were laid off or managed out of the company (department was eventually closed). Hence, terrible atmosphere within the department. Basically no one in the lab to work you in or support you. After months of work and once you have great data, supervisor takes data and runs off to the boss to present work as his/her own. More than 90% of postdocs from my year eventually left the company. Overall, horrific postdoc program. Regret every day I spent at this company. Advice 1: Don't take up the offer for the relocation program Advice 2: Don't join this program
