Pros

Merck puts a high priority on helping patients by providing the bests drugs available & strives to develop novel treatments for diseases.

Cons

There is a glass ceiling for many Merck employees that have returned to school and have obtained a BS degree. At some sites, they are discriminated against in identical job positions & can earn much less than newer employees that were hired with BS degrees.

Pros

Merck has good products to sell, provides decent sales resources, good people to work with, and provides competitive pay and benefits

Cons

For me, selling pharmaceuticals didn't bring much satisfaction. There have historically been too many reps, and doctors don't have time to see them apart from occasional lunches. Morale among reps is low. I don't see a secure future as a pharma rep.

Pros

This is a highly structured, well funded organization. The benefits are great. The senior leaders are really trying to bring Merck back to its place of prominence and glory within American business. There are also many very smart and hard working people who care deeply about the company.

Cons

The problem is that the senior leaders are too wrapped up in the processes and policies. There are many internal handcuffs placed on employees that restricts their abilities to perform normal business functions. I believe an outsider would be stupefied to learn how even simple email and voice mail communications are restricted. It is definitely a "Big Brother" culture.
