Pros

The people there are friendly and easy to work with. The benefits work well but tuition reimbursement is only 90 percent and nothing for books or fees. HR is very secretive so you don't have to worry about if you get paid enough for not. It is easy to play the political game and disregard the supposed corporate ideals. All this so you can find out that you don't get free coffee any more and the 4th lemon slice costs you a nickel. The water coolers no longer have hot water but it is easy to nuke the water since microwaves are right next to them.

Cons

The people all see through the spin of management that they care about you. Which is easy when they know people are underpaid and do nothing. The promotion scheme is very political and so are selections for extra activities like mentoring. The praise is usually behind closed doors and should you mess up everyone is very quick to blame. In fact they would rather spend time finding who is at fault instead of coming up with a solution and moving forward. The work I don't know are seen to mean that you are not very competent. Thank you for your time and support

Pros

Merck has very high quality products that add true value to the patient. Merck is highly committed to patients and provides many services and benefits that help all patients gain access to products that can change their lives. Merck has cutting edge products that are not "me too" products rather they are first in class and represent the newest and best science has to offer.

Cons

Merck is currently going through a major restructuring of its sales force. The change is causing a great deal of volitility in the work force and in turn is making many people uneasy. Merck is a very conservative company when it comes to marketing the products.

Pros

Merck is a great place for benefits and recognition (such as lunch passes, movie tickets, award dinners, and just notes to say thank you), in my department at least. They recently increased the number of vacation days we get per year. They also just started a more flexible work week where you can work from home part time, have a 4 day work week, or other arrangements. Also, since the company is so large, there is a lot of opportunity to move around and try new positions and become more well rounded. The people I work with are the best! They keep me coming back every day with the family-type atmosphere.

Cons

Right now things are in a a transition state -- we are implementing SAP, which in the end should make day to day transactions easier, but in the mean time is creating quite a stir. Many trainings and "hyper-care" stages are on their way! Senior management is sometimes inaccessable, in a way they seem to be making decisions on their own and there is a very subdivided oganization, but I know there are strategies in place to make this better, so I am optimistic for now.
