      Pros

      An increased drive to invest in biotech by the big pharmas has lead this career in a positive direction. Good team environment.

      Cons

      Lack of drive within management to promote and advance employees throughout two large mergers though there were plenty of new hires. Lack of opportunity for training/conferences/education.

      Pros

      Nice chance to work on important projects with solid potential to help real health issues - as long as they affect a large enough population. Generally solid scientists at the bench.

      Cons

      Management is driven solely by what the latest batch of consultants tell them. By the average scientist, there is very little faith in upper management. too much corporate speak, too little honesty

      Pros

      The main advantage of work at Merck Frosst research is the relative lack of budget restrictions. With that feature, scientists were able to focus on the work and collaborate really well. There were no unanswered questions due to budgets. Very different than most enterprises.

      Cons

      A small subsidiary of a large corporation means harmonisation, management at arms-length and forced global initiatives. If you can get past those things, then a great place to work.
