They set a high bar for themselves

Pros

Great CEO, COO, and CFO; I wish they could be replicated throughout the company. Or have eyes and ears everywhere to see what happens behind closed doors.

Cons

Mercury sets a pretty high bar for the company and a high bar for its employees. I'm judging the company with the same high standard. - As others have pointed out, you rolled out a culture and value statement but don't enforce it. There's a C&V gap between individual contributors and the CEO/COO/CFO (others not named intentionally). There's a pool of C&V misfits at the VP level who can get away with anything because of their title. I've been insulted, degraded, and humiliated by a few of them more times than any human being deserves. I've also had the experience (more than once) of comforting a crying employee after a public humiliation session where the employee did nothing wrong - an action wasn't communicated beforehand and a VP blew up at an employee for not having psychic powers and coming prepared to a meeting to address that particular action. When I bring these types of issues up, I'm told "get over it and just do my job". On glassdoor, you would think there's an open door policy with no retaliation / punishment for reporting. That's not the case - potential employees interviewing with Mercury, beware. There's Mercury you see on the outside (great image) and a separate Mercury operating on the inside that's much less employee friendly - if you are exposed to the C&V misfits. I will add the disclaimer that if you're not exposed to the C&V misfits, it would be a great experience!!! - I'm not going to add much to the HR and IT comments others have noted on glassdoor, except to say that the recent criticism is accurate. - Mercury doesn't care about you as an employee as they go about their business. If you get steam rolled during their one of their initiatives, you're just a casualty on a piece of paper. As long as the end objective is achieved on time and on budget, that's all that matters. People don't matter.

We are grateful for all feedback. Positive or negative, we are listening. Thank you for taking the time to share this information with us. We are working to help people feel comfortable with communicating honestly and openly either through management or HR. We are on a journey and our goal is to put mechanisms in place that encourage more two-way dialogue. As an example, we have an “ask” feature on the 1M – a tab on the right-hand side of the site where you can submit questions or comments about anything and choose to be anonymous or leave your name for a direct response. Please also feel free to come and talk with me directly or any of us on the leadership team, as we are looking for ways to improve this situation and we need input from employees. We are compiling the feedback that we’ve received from most recent reviews and the functional leaders will be meeting with their teams to discuss further. Additionally, COO, Didier Thibaud, will gather his leadership team to discuss and address your comments and others’ specifically regarding conduct that does not align with our core values. Thank you again for sharing your perspective. -Mark, President and CEO

Pros

So far it's been a very good place to work. The working schedule is very flexible. The benefits are great compared to other companies in the area. They recently moved to a new building in Andover and it's more of an open concept working environment. It's really good at promoting collaboration and general conversation with your coworkers. Standing/ sitting adjustable desks are great! The company really seems to care about their employee base. I am new here, but I already feel like I am happier than any of my other jobs at which I've been. I have no opinion of senior management so far.

Cons

The "open concept"esque of the building is double edged. It's nice to collaborate and interact with your colleagues but it also means no privacy, and it can get loud sometimes if you are around a group of people chatting right next to you. IT is rolling out a new system for the computers and such and so there are bugs there. But they are fairly quick to fix things. The company is very very flexible with time and working hours but there is no official policy on comp/ flex time or working 4x10s or taking every other Friday off. It seems like something you work out with your manager on a case by case basis. The only reason i give compensation and benefits a 4 star is because of this and the fact that I think most US company's compensations could be better. But compared to other US companies, the benefits are very good.

Thank you for this very thoughtful review. We look for input regardless of your experience or tenure with the company so we really appreciate everything you had to say. HR is embarking on an effort to enhance onboarding and will be creating an interdisciplinary team made up of employees across the business to develop it. Our job architecture includes a career path component and we are working with managers to encourage them to make sure their employees and new hires see their future opportunities. We wish you much success at Mercury!

Pros

Mercury is THE place to be. The company is forward moving both in it's development of products and it's people. Most companies pump out a culture/values statement, but it's rare to see it ever take meaningful form. At Mercury the executive team means what they say, and they walk the talk. I feel welcome and valued at this company. When our executive team briefs us on the status of the company, they are actually telling the truth and giving useful information instead of the dog & pony show you see elsewhere. I'm so glad a came to work here.

Cons

The HR department is very harsh. To new candidates, I'd say, ignore the unprofessionalism, and just get past that part. The rest of the company is staffed with awesome people that you'll love working with!

I really appreciate your feedback and I’m glad you are happy working at Mercury. We continue to strive to make Mercury a great place to work. It’s good to know that even as we’ve grown, our efforts to walk the talk are being noticed and our core values are resonating with employees, both new and existing. Our rapid organic and acquisition related growth has caused us to evolve. Specifically, over the last 12 months Human Resources at Mercury has undergone a complete transformation - as a team and as a function. We have worked to bring on board exceptional HR talent, many of whom are new, to guide the business through this transition and to implement the necessary enterprise tools and processes that will enable us to scale and that will grow with us. All of this is occurring while the HR team is still getting to know one another and working to define responsibilities and expectations. Given all they are trying to accomplish, some turbulence is to be expected, but this is no excuse for the poor treatment you’ve referenced. Emma Woodthorpe and I have been and will continue to work with the HR team to ensure that appropriate human interactions remain a priority and in line with our values. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your feedback here on Glassdoor. I sincerely appreciate your candor and wish you continued success at Mercury. -Mark Aslett, President and CEO
