Poor management and high turnover.

Pros

Good product, good land position, good price point and pricing positions, good standard features, good energy and green features, number of communities

Cons

Poor management from top to bottom with high turnover in management and sales staff, very poor communication from management and very little support. Strong favoritisum shown to a select few sales people, others are on their own. Emails and requests for help or support go unreturned and unanswered. Management will speak highly of wanting to promote from with in, but every management possition filled during my employment came from outside the company except for one.

Pros

Money was good and benefits were ok

Cons

Poor communication. CIO doesn't know his own place. If you hire people to do their job, allow them to do that.

Pros

Great atmosphere. Yes, it's an office, but they have a very nice facility, and generally speaking, 90% very nice people. It was a pleasure to come into work for the first 3/4 of my total time spent working there. Salary is certainly competitive, Benefits were very good. Although it easily could be an "Office Space" environment, our group always strived to take away from that mentality, and have our share of fun mixed in. This really helped to get through the days sometimes.

Cons

Other than the occasional schmuck you have to deal with (and that's going to happen ANYWHERE you work - even volunteering for the Red Cross!) it was ok. Until the end of my employment where I chose to accept an offer elsewhere. I never thought the day would come so soon, but they (the Executive Management) really made some poor decisions on placing certain people into certain positions. I always thought during my tenure there that Meritage did an AMAZING/TOP NOTCH job of weeding out the trash so to speak. You'd really only end up seeing people let go who NEEDED to get let go. It always made sense - until the end of my time there. I'm not sure why they did what they did - following up isn't something I chose to do, so I cannot report on where they stand now in terms of morale, and any further turnover - but the changes made ended up being quite drastic and really altered the entire landscape of the job and the work environment. To go from a cohesive team to what it ended up as was quite sad. Change happens throughout life - so, obviously at work too. You just like to hope that everyone is able to adapt as best they can, and often new beginnings are NOT a bad thing! Not the case here. Other than that - a GREAT place to work - and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. All of the Executive Management are very approachable, save one of them who is quite difficult to handle - not bad odds for a bunch of millionaires.
