Pros
I was an Adjunct Professor for 5 years and an OYO (One Year Only) Full-Time Faculty for 3 years. Yes you heard me correct, 3 years which is both Board approved and a requirement for Fulll-time status. Pros: There are a lot of great people there, both coworkers and students. Teaching can be incredibly rewarding when you're teaching a subject you really have passion for. The pay can be great! The school calendar means a lot of time off with pay. My part of the campus had excellent equipment.
Cons
I was not granted Full-Time Status. After 8 years of teaching, creating classes, maintaining classrooms and upgrading systems I was offered Adjunct Pay again restricted to the equivalent of 20 hours per week as to not come anywhere close to The Affordable Care Act requirements. Pathetic. I left that sinking ship and have been better for it. Cons: Management is constantly locked in a political battle for power at the campus. Little to no room for advancement. Those on High don't care about you and will replace you with someone less experienced for less pay in a heartbeat. Some students can be complete tools. Some coworkers can be complete tools. The medical benefits are weak unless you are ACTUALLY considered permanent Full-Time. They are more concerned about your degree(s) than your experience/performance in the classroom.
