Was a great place to work, but the good times appear to be over
Pros
Prior to COVID, they offered their employees great benefits. Many of them were still maintained during/after COVID, but quite a few were taken away or reduced. Still, in general, they do a great job of making you appreciate them. It can make it hard to know when it’s probably time to leave.
Cons
The time of bread and circuses is coming to an end for Meta. Like many tech companies, Meta used crazy perks and benefits to help hide the duller parts of the work that folks have to perform. There’s nothing wrong with that, as I believe that it is a company’s prerogative to do what they can to entice employees to stay. But I’d often wondered when that would all be forced to stop due to declining revenue, and a flooding market due to those who believed a tech career was a sure fire way to get a six-figure salary right out of college. Well, it looks like that time is finally here. Many layoffs are alleged to have begun, while employee moral is in decline due to reduced benefits and a dramatically underperforming stock price. While there are still many good roles and fine people that work there, it appears that the company as a whole is heading into a rather rough patch.
