Pros

The benefits and food are great. Regardless of how the company is at large, the team matters like with any big company

Cons

Very "cross-functional" so you have to do a lot of influencing with very little authority. Not all goals are aligned. And often it seems like everyone is racing to a deadline to nowhere. It can be very cutthroat at times as well. And long hours. Very, very fast-paced and aggressive culture. PM at the center, therefore your life can depend a lot on how good (and how collaborative and how low/high-ego) the PM you work with is

Pros

Great benefits, competitive compensation and yearly equity refreshers.

Cons

Performance review process is a nightmare and can feel like trying to hit a moving target while blindfolded at times. It leaves much room for favoritism, discrimination and can vary widely depending on your manager. Also company also talks a lot about “work-life balance” but doesn’t really do anything concrete to create a working environment to do so, specifically for those who struggle with mental health. That said, they sure love to talk about it like they mean it. They don’t.

Pros

The benefits at Facebook are excellent. My entire healthcare team was based on campus and I felt very supported in my personal life. The company tries to do social impact work and does really care about the vision

Cons

Lack of strong managers across the board. I have had 7 managers and only 2 have been excellent. The burnout is real and it’s happened to me multiple times over my tenure. Facebook is now too big to be nimble and productive across departments, there is a lot of wasted time because of lack of process. Compensation honestly hasn’t matched what offers I’ve received at startups

Thanks for taking a moment to share your feedback. It’s important to us to give people options in how they want to grow their career so that becoming a people manager isn’t the only way for people to grow their careers—and people who choose the management path truly want to be on that career track. We’re so sorry to hear that your experiences with your direct managers haven’t measured up to that intent. We encourage all managers to seek out feedback from their direct reports often, and we hope you take the time to share feedback with your manager directly, in our bi-annual employee surveys, or with your HRBP, depending on your specific circumstances, if you haven’t already.
