Great for growth, bad for the long-term
Pros
- Lots of opportunity for growth - State of the art tech
Cons
Leadership: quite honestly, most of the major problems are coming from top-down decisions that are poorly thought out and poorly executed. At the time I write this, it's AAI but there's been so many others in the past 5 years alone: Metaverse, wearables, the Scale AI acquisition, the list goes on (presumably something new by the time you read this). There's no accountability for leadership and so the same people keep making simliar mistakes. Normally, C-suite does whatever and it doesn't impact your life as line SWE except their mistakes/bad bets result in mass layoffs/reorgs to positions people don't want or are ill-suited for. The worst part is that I can't even tell you not to take the job - I would still do it again. Just know that you're likely going to get screwed at some point and that's effectively part of the role description. Also the WLB is truly terrible, I've worked 90 hour weeks but the comp really offset the pain of that.
