Pros

The pros are co-workers make the job tolerable.

Cons

Where to start with the cons? -Pay Pay your staff! Why work for you when J go to another hospital and make more money and deal with less crap? At my facility, the good staff leave. -Benefits to high! I work at a hospital but cannot afford to ve hospitalized. What a joke. -Clean and paint My facility is dirty, point blank. Not to mention the paint literally peeling from the walls. I couldn't imagine being a patient in my facility! -Train The training is a joke! The facility I work for is so understaffed I was basically thrown on the floor immediately. The rest of the training is on a computer to save money. -Management They only contact you when they need something from you. HR is also about as useless. Basically, my facility is very unorganized, short staffed, dirty and doesn't pay nearly enough.

Pros

Appears to be a good place to work with a fun culture and good CEO, COO...

Cons

-Awful health benefits (you pay for everything until you meet your $1000 deductible) - of all the hospitals I have worked for, this is the worst. After your deducible is met, you pay %25. This adds up when you have to see specialists. $600 for hospitalizations. WE PROVIDE HEALTHCARE and you can't take better care of your employees?! -Hired as a full time employee and RARELY get full time hours. Often cancelled 2 shifts a week. -Poor communication from managers. Training is all over the place, multiple, preceptors, no communication about what to expect in orientation, preceptors aren't compensated and don't do a good job. - Policies are in place and not followed 1) supposed to be called a minimum of 2 hours before a shift - NEVER EVER happens. Literally not one time 2) No call back pay 3) Supposed to work all shifts for first 90 days as you can't use any PTO but I have been called off a lot without PTO to use. 3) Called off, then called back to come in, then called back and asked to actually come at 11:00pm....this is the standard practice. When this is communicated with management, they become defensive "There was no way for me to know that staffing was going to change...." 4) hired to work on one floor, regularly sent elsewhere without proper training. You have to complain about everything to not get taken advantage of. No in-person classes for nursed. Everything is online BLS, ACLS, NRP... everything. They are cheap and provide the bare minimum for education to employees. It's not safe. Staff meetings are set up and then repeatedly canceled which further leads to poor communication and therefore poor morale. Nearly everyone in my department is actively looking for other work.

Cath Lab RN

Pros

Learn more in depth about the heart and functions. Learn about transplants, structural hearts, equipment used to maintain heart function, valve replacements. Excellent tech team.

Cons

Seem to be more concerned about physicians time than patient care. Did not like call and did not seem to make any more money than I had working my 3 twelve hour shifts. RN's in this lab do not afford the courtesy of learning, very moody and felt they were above other RN's. Loved to gossip. Compassionate patient care and education was not at the top of their job performance. Patients were often scared with no explanation as to what was going to take place or information on their procedures.
