Poor Pay, Little Support or Training for New Hires
Pros
Flexible first job, topical job for art student. Studied under very skilled framers who've become good friends. However, after these persons left for other opportunities management didn't hire qualified individuals.
Cons
As a first job, I was thrilled to begin as a floor associate at $6.50 per hour in 2005. After being with the company for 5 years, the last two as a certified custom framer, I was making $8.50. As a student that's well and good, but several employees with families were making little more. Management usually hid in the office, and sale leads didn't have defined roles. Framers are told that payroll hours come from sales and production, yet we receive no additional hours from exceding goals. Far too few associates on staff, and very little overlap in framing. If you take orders all day by yourself, no production gets done, which leads to unhappy customers and botched rush jobs.
