Pros

Direct Hire ( no temp agency). Some of the people are very professional & helpful. Good Health Insurance plan compared to many other employers in this industry.

Cons

(Somewhat) Low wage compared to other companies. Fab is Understaffed. 12-hour shifts, and you are mostly on your feet. Favoritism; Some areas have cliques as bad as any in High School ( far worse than any of the other semiconductor companies I've worked at)

Pros

Working at Microchip has its benefits: 1. In general, people are good at what they do, even though the pace could be slower than other semiconductor companies. 2. Hours and culture are somewhat laid back (except crunch time). 3. There are procedures to follow and transfer internally opening up opportunities.

Cons

The biggest con is the much below market compensation at Microchip 1. Internal transfer are lateral only, even if you earned additional credential and experience warranted the transfer (MBA, M.S., professional certificates...). This allow Microchip to fill expensive positions internally with cheap labor. 2. Raise is very low, think about 2~3% most of the time. There are exceptions but that is the guideline. Overtime, your comp will be hurt because of that. However, raising stock prices can keep employees happy. During a stock slow down. I can see lots of people look elsewhere. 3. More motivated and bright people will go else where. We all work for a living, so if you can make a better living elsewhere, the best and brightest will do so.
