Pros

Good health insurance (though increased in costs the last few years). Flexible hours as long as the work gets done (depending on manager). Good people -- helpful, smart, responsible.

Cons

Heavy on upper management with no discernible benefit. Tight budgets and lean resources. Pay compensation seemed lower than industry with increases slower/smaller amounts.

Pros

- opportunities and rewards for strong performers - Company culture is real; for the most part - management walks the talk - promotes from within whenever possible - growth through acquisition has been strategic. The recent Atmel acquisition has been the biggest gamble, but will undoubtedly prove to be greatly beneficial to Microchip. - Our CEO has quarterly "communication meetings" with the entire company. The U.S. flag is always displayed prominently behind the podium (Yes - I consider this a "pro").

Cons

- 401K match is truly appalling. Guaranteed at 25% of the first 4% of employee contributions, with an additional discretionary 25% granted quarterly depending on financial results. So the match is basically 25 cents to 50 cents on your dollar. - Microchip's not a Si Valley boomer - - but neither is intel: a sabbatical leave should be considered for long term employees. God knows it would benefit both me AND Microchip if I was able to get some extended time off. - My understanding (by talking directly with others and "through the grapevine") is that compensation has been stagnant for higher paid employees for a few years now.
