Pros

Company is focused on maintaining a healthy margin on its products (will walk away from a sale rather than dropping the price to a point where there's no profit). This results in a financial stability that is virtually unmatched in the industry. Company also cares about its workforce; will maintain its workforce through downturns (no mass layoffs).

Cons

Communication with various groups/departments sometimes difficult because of constant changes. Many acquisitions in the last few years means lots of changes in structure.

Excellent place to work

Pros

- You work for MCHP, you are a part of the family. When business is down, everyone chips-in to make sure no one needs to be fired and when business is up, everyone enjoys the bonus. - Job security and very good work-life balance - Good predictable work culture; managers are created from within MCHP and never hired from outside - Dependable benefits package but nothing fancy, very helpful clinic at Chandler/Tempe office - Wise management and executive teams that have a good pulse on the semiconductor industry - Good place to work if you plan to stick around and build your career

Cons

- Not a good place if earning more $ is your first priority. The semiconductor industry growth has topped off. If your priority is earning more $, then you'll have to accept the risks and jump on to a relatively new industry where there is enough growth. - Very average canteen; not open at all times of the work day ... no free coffee either! - Depending on the team that you work for and your direct manager, external motivation can be hard to come by. There are many exceptions to this as well. - Employees with 7~10+ years of service rarely quit; hence, it can be a tag tough to move up the ladder into the management team

Pros

Relaxed and friendly work environment where people are willing to help each other to get things done...similar to a start up environment.

Cons

At Micrel, there is a general lack of enthusiasm and energy and morale is quite stagnant. I think pay may be lower than industry.
