Pros

Very flexible with hours and balance between work and personal life. You have plenty of time to go home to your family. Pretty much everyone here are doing the 8-5. Some division have pretty good managers and I believe the senior management is capable of changing at time that are most needed. They didn't do a big layoff in 2009 which is rarely seen in the semiconductor industry. It will be stable in turns of profit etc.

Cons

The pay is the most complained issue in Microchip. You start at about 10~15% lower than the industrial average and your raise is about 2~3% most likely and not much more than that. The longer you stay at this company, the lower your pay becomes. I graduated from very prestigious University but my pay is so much lower comparing to my classmates who graduated at the same time as me but with much lower expertise, GPA, etc. If pay is not what you care about, I guess it's okay. The stock has really go anywhere in the last couple years. You can out perform your peers but still mostly likely have to wait for "YOUR TURN" to be promoted, this is astounding to me. Somewhere good engineers did not get the raise they want and get very frustrated and left, partly also because other places offered them 20~40% more in compensation. The technology here is very outdated and are not challenging or cutting edge at all. It could be fairly boring once you learn how to perform your task. But for some, going home playing with the kids are more important than developing cutting edge technology. So they stay. For the younger, hungrier, more ambitious employees, they normally doesn't stay beyond 5~6 years.
