Pros

The CEO is not only a top leader in the healthcare manufacturing industry, she is a physician so she understands the customer. Most of the people who work for Midmark are very concerned and caring people. They care about the customer and about each other. Most come from an environment in or near Versailles, Ohio that is a close community and a very hard-working community. The company has shown change and growth over the last 100 years. That says a lot about its innovation and how its been able to reinvent itself.

Cons

Because the CEO pushes personal development, which should be a great thing, many times employees step on each others' toes. Growth and new tasks should be up to a person's manager, not up to an individual to take on tasks simply because they want to. Objectives and tasks need to be placed where they belong. Otherwise, this causes confusion about who is doing what, and friction between departments and between people. End result - bad morale. As the company grows, not everyone grasps the culture. The company, known by its tagline "Because we care" included caring about internal and external customers. With more focus on numbers as well as many being overwhelmed and overworked, internal customers needs were not being met. Many do not take responsibility for their actions or show a huge lack of communication, again causing poor morale and poor working environment. The move of the headquarters to Dayton was a good move for the growth of the company; however, they should have moved more employees or not moved it at all. Communication within and between other departments became a struggle and no one was leading the change. People were feeling displaced, having to work both in Versailles AND Dayton each week. It didn't make any sense.

Too many changes, not enough focus

Pros

Good pay, good benefits, safe and healthy environment

Cons

System-wide instability with too many people doing continuous improvement projects and problem-solving with insufficient training. For the average shop floor worker, this kind of environment interferes with daily production and decreases morale. Also, Midmark has undergone a plant expansion and is in the middle of moving departments around, so this also contributes to instability.

Pros

* Small company atmosphere * Executives know their markets well * Company is cash strong, little to no debt * High margin medical/dental/health products * Work/Life balance was good - best part of working here

Cons

* Nepotism (lots of people in Versailles are related) * Not a lot of good employers in the area to compare to - so this mediocre company looks stellar locally. * The area is dying - this company has about 1400 employees (1000 locally) and is in the top 20 largest employers in the Dayton area. * High margin products (with scrutiny in medical costs and the consolidation in the medical field away from individual doctor offices, this too will end) * Frantically looking for a future revenue stream for when the high margin durable good they make are no longer their cash cow. 'Services' is the target. * Protectionism - the locals protect the locals. They all know that when a local loses their job they have at Midmark, there is very little chance they will find another one in the same field in the commutable area. * Job experience from Midmark is not liked by other local employers, they know about the bad management and the way it works there.
