Pros

Operating a worldwide fleet of ships on a shoestring budget compared to the Navy

Cons

current leadership is clueless. They have no knowledge of how to run a business nor do they care to learn. Current admiral is only interested in impressing his bosses with PowerPoint slides

Pros

Good starting point for the marine time industry especially for young licensed individuals straight out of school. You will move up fast and gain sea time fairly quick. Federal based job and guaranteed employment if your looking for financial stability.

Cons

You will ALWAYS be gone. assignments are a minimum of 4 months and your usually overdue for a additional 30-45 days making the average assignment 5-6 months long at a time the expected work rotation. In which afterwards you will only be allowed 30 days leave at home before being considered AWOL or threatened with leave without pay or termination even if you have the leave time available on the books.

Pros

Pay, even entry level positions. Overtime can sometimes double your base pay. Travel, experience, promotions. Job security.

Cons

Don't apply unless you are prepared to be away from home a LOT. Hiring process is difficult and takes time. Working with people that have "homesteaded" on a vessel and are poor performers. Leadership on the ship cannot fire a dirt bag. Some mariners in the outfit are extremely unhealthy and some are not very clean... I have seen two employees pass away while at sea, they should have never been sent out to the ship. Traveling to meet the ship is seldom a good experience, with the amount of traveling we do, we should be able to fly business class just for the extra leg room, 13 hour flights are a nightmare if you are even close to 6 feet tall.
