Lousy pay, ingrained sexism, crazy politics, ugh!

Pros

everyone you know will respect you for working there.

Cons

below average pay, a management style that pits one department against another to meet random budget restrictions. A weird phenomenon of more male leadership at the top with female minions in the trenches. Creepy.

–Work with inspiring artists –little oversight from leadership –access to fun events –surrounded with mostly talented, hard-working staff

Cons

–below market pay –disorganized and over-worked staff –no work/life balance –no HR –certain departments are unpleasant to work with, and not friendly –very little respect or appreciation for work

Pros

Great collection; financial resources available for ambitious projects; a number of dedicated and professional colleagues.

Cons

Negative atmosphere. Teamwork is rare among curatorial colleagues. Despite abundant resources, proportionally little time and money allocated towards research or furthering the mission. Emphasis is on raising the profile(s) of a few key players. Poor hiring decisions (it's who you know, not what you know) that then burden and demoralize the qualified staff members. Unaddressed sexism. Indifferent and irresponsible HR department.
