Pros

Flexible time off, flexible working model, decent benefits & perks, nice coworkers, some growth opportunities if the timing is right (although sometimes promised and never given).

Cons

Underqualified "senior" manager for the org who picks and chooses who she coaches - favoritism is very apparent. Terrible communication. Zero psychological safety. "Office politics" are in full swing. People are let go with either a fake reason or no explanation given. The team has truly gone downhill. Not worth the stress or the headache. Find another spot. Also, the salary is on the very low end of average, maybe even below average depending on your level. The amount of turnover this year alone has been a huge indicator of where things are heading.

Pros

Interesting challenges and smart colleagues.

Cons

MongoDB, before 2023 was an incredible place to work. The problems were (and still are interesting), and comp growth through refreshers and equity appreciation were both good. There were still some issues. Benefits were abysmal. There was no 401k match. HR is not employee friendly on issues like relocation, immigration and short-term leave. The company recently implemented a amazon-style PIP quotas that make amazon look like a good employer. Employees were essentially laid off via a shady PIP that was essentially never meant as a performance improvement tool. Those on pip received no severance or option to continue healthcare or immigration support. The CTO came from amazon and the chief people officer worked for cognizant for a long time, and it clearly shows. Avoid this place if you have other offers. You judge an employer based on how it treats employees at times of adversity and Mongodb failed to do the bare minimum.

Pros

The actual work here is very interesting. As a systems engineer, I couldn't ask for much that's more exciting than helping build a database. Peers are very intelligent and care is put into making committed code as good as it can be. I've learned so much on the job here.

Cons

Management is unskilled and un-trained. Some people who work here are jerks, and are allowed to keep being jerks as long as they produce quality code. This drives away other talented, friendlier engineers. The culture is unhealthy in promoting quality/quantity of work over most else--interpersonal relations, work-life balance, and personal sanity included. Diversity in age, race, gender, religion, undergraduate college, and many other vectors is sorely lacking. Female employees, especially engineers, are treated unfairly no matter how much MongoDB pays lip service to this cause.
