Cons

Where do I begin? This place was once pretty decent years ago, but even then it was a tough place to be from a culture and quota attainment perspective. If you’re a minority of any kind you will likely be the only one in the room if not one of a handful. Expect to be micro managed and work well over 50 hours a week if you want to be viewed as a good employee. Overly complex comp structure that only a small percentage of people actually hit. Lots of bad managers have ended up in middle management positions across sales, customer success, and sales dev. You cannot share feedback unless it’s positive but you have to subject yourself to feedback of any kind at all times. Sales org is a walking HR violation (I saw this in another review) as it’s only men who all look the same. There’s zero diversity of any kind across most regions and they refuse to acknowledge this or do anything meaningful about it. Sales execs and senior leadership leaving left and right over the past 18 months and it looks like that trend is continuing. Managers only care about the numbers and nothing more. You have no room to be person. My manager was responsible for 4 people either asking to leave their team, or who ended up quitting, and that manager is still with the company. Sales org is a good ole boys club and those who fall in line or get close to the right people will get good accounts, grace, and actual mentoring. Customer success org doesn’t seem to be much better. I’ve heard horror stories from other regions about women getting push back for wanting to take their full maternity leave or coming back after leave with all new accounts, etc. The most toxic and exhausting QBR experience with people regularly suffering from massive amounts of stress and anxiety or going to the bathroom to cry. Full of mind games. Also, no team building events besides binge drinking. If they want you gone they will push you until you just quit. Also, the pay is below the standard for sales execs now…If I can sum up this place in a few words: just a traumatizing boys club full of egos that are stuck in an echo chamber of their own beliefs.

Pros

Good money, but there is a price you pay for it.

Cons

Management was subpar. They promote from within and the people that are promoted are not qualified. When I interviewed people I was told to be hard on them and not really gauge how good of an architect they would be. After that I realized that I needed to leave. Sales teams are like used care salesmen. Slimy as you can get. The company loves the slimy staff. I had to get out of the slime to someplace that would succeed in the long run. I was able to get out after two years. The turn over rate is sky high. Don't believe them when they say the turn over is low. They are lying to you. The executives are micro managers - no real leaders in the company

Thanks for your feedback. We make a point to include a cross-section of managers from different levels in our interview process, as we believe that it's important for our senior people to know who and how are we hiring. Moreover, we do strongly believe in considering internal candidates for larger roles, as we want people to have a career, not just a job, at MongoDB. That being said, we always do a mix of external hires and internal promotions given how fast we are growing and to ensure that we attract and keep the best people in the industry. I'm sorry you had such a negative experience; we are constantly working to improve the culture of all of our different teams, and making sure all our teams, not just sales, acts with integrity (assuming that is the opposite of 'slimy'). While I take your feedback seriously, given our results and other candid feedback we receive (even on glassdoor) I'd like to believe your experience is the exception, and not the rule.

a dangerous, toxic place for women to work

Pros

The product is great and the market vitality is solid. Some of the frontline managers were solid.

Cons

Leadership harasses women. I witnessed multiple examples of men in leadership advantaging their position to harass and coerce women into sexual relationships. One woman on the sales team, who was in an intimate relationship with a senior leader, was called "the power broker" on the team by our VP. If you wanted good accounts, you had to find a way to become a favorite, and it was clear from multiple angles that if you were a woman, one of the angles was providing inappropriate attention to male executives. There are separate HR teams for ICs vs Leaders. When harassment is reporting, there is NO accountability for the leaders. The company will do whatever it takes to get rid of people who don't fall in line and sweep their disgusting culture under the rug. Do not under any circumstances join this company.
