One of the biggest challenges I and many others have experienced at MongoDB is the siloed nature of functions. This structure can lead to a sense of isolation and a lack of visibility into what's happening across the broader business. Improved cross-functional collaboration and communication would go a long way in building stronger alignment and community.
While the benefits package is generous and does help offset some concerns, it's worth noting that base salaries are beginning to fall behind current industry benchmarks.
The culture, while professional, often feels overly corporate. While I understand the need for policies that protect both the company and employees, it sometimes results in an environment where people feel they need to hold back aspects of their true selves. It’s a delicate balance.
Unfortunately, I have encountered instances of age-related bias from certain employees—something that was both disappointing and surprising given the company’s otherwise progressive values. There is a clear opportunity for MongoDB to invest more in training around discrimination, bias, and inclusive behaviours to ensure a respectful and equitable workplace for all.
