Pros

All you can drink booze hour for virtually any event at the office, ice cream day, that’s about it.

Cons

Middle management is the very example of the Peter Principle, they don’t know what they are doing. I spoke with my manager twice during the pandemic, actually, they spoke AT me. It wasn’t a conversation, nor do they take any time to actually get to know their people. Attorney’s can be nice, but for the most part, they try to give you the bare minimum in terms of challenging work duties so that they can justify your low wage in high cost of living areas which then equates to you actually losing money if you had taken a lower wage in a lower cost of living area. Speaking of which, they pay new employee’s HALF the amount of the Legal Secretaries when they are expected to do even more work than they were or ever have done (especially with low salary raises and no pension). Some of the leadership tries to be accommodating and supportive but they are very much out of touch with modern day workers. Finally, their culture is really bad, even before the pandemic. Countless people gossiping all the the time (mostly women about other women). Unless you are an attorney - good luck feeling included or like you fit in anywhere with how little respect anyone gives you. They only want to give promotions to outside contractors or to attorneys. Their entire group/board on issues is only allowed for attorneys. Most of their workforce is much older and they will be scrambling to retain young talent in the next few years if they want to continue being relevant or having any competent on the ground folks.

Pros

Good location close to public transportation, attorneys and professional staff are professional and pleasant to work with, compensation is appropriate for the area.

Cons

CA HR Regional leadership is leading to very, very high turnover in the region.

Contract attorney

Pros

Well... at least they don't poison your food.

Cons

Firm has a terrible reputation for dishonesty toward contract attorneys. They advertised for a project at $X pay rate, then made you take hours to fill out a huge conflicts check form. Then the recruiter contacted us to say we got the job... only thing is, now we can only pay you $4/hr less. Dozens of us said screw them and passed on the job. Other people I've worked with that have reported that they try to get away with paying different people on the same project different pay rates. Do they really think nobody would notice? There are lots of firms for which I'll do contract work, but Morgan Lewis won't be one of them. Utterly dishonest.
