      Pros

      Salary and benefits are excellent. Company follows through on their committment to balancing work / life issues with real incentives and suggestions. They also support additional training or education efforts with their wallet - not just lip service.

      Cons

      Everything you might want to do - no matter how large or small - requires you know the policy, and follow it. Need a new PC? New PC arrived with 2 business days. The staff to set it up (must be union person) - 5 weeks. On the plus side - it's usually pretty easy to find the policy - very good search features on intranet.

      Pros

      Positive brand name to have on resume. In the right position you can learn a great deal about the investment business with opportunities for advancement or overseas work. Comp is competetive although it can be confusing as to how they came up with your figure.

      Cons

      Retail (the former Dean Witter) and Institutional (the white-shoe firm you know of) are at odds with one another. The retail side is in dissaray with old cultural barriers preventing positive change. Many employees seem beated down, unappreciated and unknown. Promotion policy is restrictive to # of years with firm and is challenging for high performers to be offered promotion prior to the HR approved length of service requirement.
