Pros

Location. Worked in other companies their systems of accessing docs and opening new accounts requiring approval of various departments are one of the best.

Cons

Depends what group or area is worked for. I understand other groups where as widely publicized that you can work from home and be able to raise a family my area was all about show, everyone stayed as late as the boss and when the boss was away of business trip they left at decent hours. I was sick one day and was still asked to come in even though I had worked from home all night and was still able to be logged in. Their computerized systems shows when your computer goes to sleep to whomever has you listed in the internal IM system, so they know that you are logged in working even from home, but that was not enough.

Pros

The firm is established and prestigious. The work force is pretty diversed and has a good amount of competent people. The pay is competitive and there's a lot of material to learn new things. You just have to be proactive in researching. People are nice enough to take time to show their day to day. Management escalation is in the right direction for the firm.

Cons

Assuming same across all banks but if you can't be vocal then you can't shine or show case your competency. Also the request for transition into new work or groups is hard. This road block can force people to leave the firm. Although if you stay with the group, you can gain a team lead or promotion opportunity, but I personally can't perform the same function for years on out.

Pros

There are generally very smart people who work at MSCI Barra. The kitchen is also stocked with lots of free food. The computers are resources are very good. The benefits are also top notch but you do not go to a firm like this because of the benefits.

Cons

The management is poor and the managers drive out the young, hardworking people who do all of the legwork. The firm as a whole has poured a lot of resources into risky proprietary activities that have hurt the rest of the firm. Morale is low but better than other places. Hours are very long given the low pay which leads to low morale.
