Pros

Morningstar provides a perfect working environment and flexiable working time. Compared to other financial companies, it won't give you too much pressure. In addition, it encoraged you to pursue your ideal career path (take CFA exam or take MBA courses).

Cons

Compared to other financial companies, its base salary is not very competitive. Neither is the bonus... That's the only reason which let down people.

Pros

A really great culture - people are very open, its very laid back. You do feel like senior management is open, honest, and approachable. Company meetings are well planned, informative, and even entertaining. Definite opportunities to make big impacts on Morningstar Products. Chicago office is beautiful and state of the art - really a pleasure to work at.

Cons

Very unclear career paths, very little guidance. They tout this as a 'benefit' - you make your own career - but really this is a cop-out. Pay is definitely below market for similar positions elsewhere and may not even keep up with inflation so make sure you are happy with your starting salary.

Pros

Good benefits (for far less pay), such as sabbatical, free drinks, socializing Casual, laid-back environment Great location Friendly people Fair bonus compensation

Cons

Stay out of IT, they don't know what they're doing. Senior management is not technical and becomes hostile when inefficiencies or problems are pointed out to them. Management pretends to have an open door policy but I did not see this in practice. The new building is evidence that M* favors style over function.
