Toxic Culture - Unless you work for Cargill, do not come to Morton Salt

Pros

Pay (depends on the role)

Cons

CEO appears to be non-existent. Morton targets a major competitor employees to fill leadership roles. Morton does not often promote from within unless the person previously worked for the specific major competitor. Communication is almost non-existent. You find out people have been let go when you email them and receive a message saying to contact someone else. Turnover is horrendous. It seems like every week more people who seemingly are doing a good job are let go. Long time employees are dismissed without a legitimate reason. It appears that Supply Chain, Quality, and HR have people involuntarily and voluntarily leaving at a high rate. Employees appear to be working out of fear of losing their jobs, not out of the joy of doing something purposeful. Not all. The operator level employees jobs seem fairly safe.

New Leadership running it aground

Pros

Good lower level people still exist. Pay was fine, but not for hours worked.

Cons

The new leadership is driving people away or removing good people to replace with "yes" men (and it is men, company was a good mix of race and gender before now mostly white men in any supervision level). Insane work hours, they save money by removing people and adding the work to others. Environmental, safety and quality used to be in the forefront but production is now the only focus, and it shows in lessening standards and increased problems. No family or work life focus, if you get cancer they simply make an excuse to fire you.
