Poor Company - Weeks Island

Pros

Not many site specific Company as a whole had good benefits

Cons

Low salary for field, amount of work/time involved Poor management practices Adverse to change "My way or the highway" management Micromanagement, no trust that employees are capable or qualified Morton as a whole - Big con was having no support to seek different job opportunities. Open positions that I applied to saw my application completely ignored. If I am not qualified, fine, but at least have the courtesy to inform me I am not in the running. Specific note, when I express interest to an advancement opportunity, telling me I am better off where I am is not what an employee wants to hear.

Pros

location is downtown, it is interesting business to work in

Cons

have been here through a lot of the changes over the past 3+ years. I have seen over 20 people leave for different reasons if not more. It would take a spreadsheet to figure everybody's name. I think the major problem is like everywhere there are certain people are favored and that no matter what you know or have done in the past it doesn't matter. There has been a complete change in a lot of dept's along with HR. New people come in and it seems like the "old" staff who have kept the place going during the transition are cast aside.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s important to us that all of our employees feel empowered to grow within our organization and achieve their career goals, no matter their role or years of service. There is a significant culture shift underway at Morton Salt, and we look to our employees to provide input into those efforts via employee surveys and other tools. We heard from many employees that they wanted a work environment that was more open and collaborative, which was a driving force in our decision to break down walls (both literally and figuratively) at our new headquarters office. Certainly we will look at additional perks but we also encourage our Chicago headquarter employees to give our open office concept a chance to succeed. Morton Salt HR Team
