Pros
With some good ideas and a bit of get up and go, you can go far in Mott MacDonald and make some great friends along the way. It might take a bit of time but the key to success is listening carefully to what is happening and talk to the people around you.
I have worked here for more than 10 years and tried a few things before settling on doing what I do now, which is contract administration and
project management, drawing on my technical background in infrastructure design.
When I attended the Mott MacDonald Annual General Meeting recently, I got to meet all the people I have worked with during this time (who are still with us of course). It was great to see people from my days as a both light rail and water designer.
The people make Mott Macdonald and with their help I have been encouraged to push the limits. I have been encouraged to try new things, such as developing a 3D model using Sketchup for the first time of an outline design which enabled client to approve a complex M&E solution for a sludge plant. At the moment I am working several demanding but exciting projects and also promoting a successive approach to budget and programme management on medium sized projects, with the support from the management team. I am also part of organising the annual Mott MacDonald sports day here in Edinburgh when everyone from across the company is welcome to complete and play for a day (and night!). Loads of social stuff going on too.
Cons
There is inertia to change and reform in Mott Macdonald and the organisation suffers from not coming up with and implementing innovative ways of working as a global organisation. Lots of things are being done but many people in teams on the ground should be encouraged and pushed to maximise the potential of the size of our organisation.
