Pros

Mott MacDonald are a good company to work for primarily because they are an Employee owned business - this means that most managers are shareholders and all staff receive company performance related pay in they monthly salary. This means that good work one year leads to increased pay the next - this fosters a 'common good' ethos. You also have the opportunity to work on some incredible projects, multi-billion pound infrastructure projects. There is also opportunity to travel and work abroad if you would like to. MM are a fair employer and foster a family feeling between managers and staff.

Cons

Career progression can feel like you are waiting to fill 'dead mans shoes'!

Pros

Open and flexible working environment, not too much emphasis on hierarchies, reasonable opportunities for advancement and encouragement to advance. The work-life balance is on the whole fairly good, and the work is project-focus so working additional hours is only expected where necessary. It is not a requisite for advancement. The culture of the company is in general friendly, and most of senior management are very open and responsive people. The salaries available to staff on lower grades are good when compared to competitors. On the whole the people at mott macdonald are friendly, highly skilled and ready to share skills with others, There is a strong feeling of teamwork and very few selfish or egotistical people.

Cons

Very large organisation in which people can get lost, not enough recognition given to technical experts. Also the holiday allowance is very poor indeed, and in general the benefits structure is poor. There is very little flexibility available. Annual leave is limited to 20 days plus 2 statutory days. Generally many employees can get lost in the huge organisation, however due to the skill shortage in most disciplines ambitious individuals get progress as they wish, with hard work. There is a high staff turnover, but this is true of most companies in this field and is partly due to the limited salaries on offer for technical jobs.

Pros

The best reasons to work at Mott MacDonald are the opportunities worldwide to contribute to nation development be it in heavy civil engineering, education, health or management consultancy. It is inspiring to be part of awesome projects of national significance around the world. I've found that even when working on the tinyest projects the pride taken in doing a good job is infectious. The ethos of the company is work hard and live well - they understand that the happy employee has a happy family. The senior management make an effort to reach right down and communicate to the grassroots and at all levels I've noticed that people are prepared to laugh at themselves when as in any company things aren't straightforward. Its just a great company to work for.

Cons

Everyone is very busy that it is sometimes difficult to find support or mentoring for career development beyond going on the training courses offered. It is very easy to become pigeonholed and ending up doing the same job for ever and I know that you have to shout loudly to get things changed.
