Why I Stay

Pros

I continue to work at movableink for two main reasons. First, we’ve continued to hire extremely well which impacts who I work with day to day, as well as the overall direction of the company. Additionally and perhaps more important personally, the fact that I feel like my opinions matter. Not just on the engineering team where I work, but the company as a whole. (We also do company beer tastings which are pretty awesome.)

Cons

It's a fast growing company in a competitive market with less experienced people practicing new responsibilities so mistakes are going to be made. I think the fact that you're not scolded for this is a plus, but not everyone is comfortable working in that sort of environment.

Pros

-Exciting to contribute to the company's rapid growth and help create something entirely new in the email marketing space -Many chances to make your ideas happen, leadership is open to new ideas -Intelligent, passionate, and fun co-workers -Kitchen is stocked with snacks and drinks (iced coffee!) -Unlimited paid vacation/sick days (just need to clear days off with your manager in advance), 401K, full health insurance -Travel stipend for monthly NYC MetroCard

Cons

-Office is an open loft set-up, which is great for knowing what's going on in other groups within the company, but can be distracting sometimes. There are breakout rooms to work in if you need quiet, though. -Since it's a startup, frequently asked to handle tasks outside what might typically fall in your job description. But everyone's willing to help each other out for the overall benefit of the company.

Pros

the people you collab with are friendly and hardworking (lateral roles)

Cons

seems management is pushing 5 star reviews after negative reviews left in the last 6+ months unsure where the company is headed, even in light of the town halls. you can't believe what a company says in town halls. Communicate before laying off or stop pushing raises and bonuses to leadership. If leadership cared, they wouldn't be stating there isn't enough budget allocated to provide promotions and raises when leadership is getting increases. the rest of the hard working employees are not.
