Pros

Some good coworkers and good dogs

Cons

Everything other than coworkers and dogs is a trash fire, sometimes literally because of the homeless people smoking outside the stores in the more dicey areas. Management is not functional, the customer interactions are a lot like therapy sessions and you won’t be making enough money to save or develop any transferable skills. Don’t believe your manager when they dangle the carrot of promotion - it won’t happen.

We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your time with Mud Bay. Safety is of high concern to us, and we are always working diligently with local law enforcement as well as our Safety Manager and Store Operations team to address any incidents that may impact our teams or customers. Whenever a new position is opened, we reserve the opening for internal Muddies for a minimum of 3 days to ensure our current team members get those opportunities before external candidates are considered. We recommend talking with your Store Manager and/or District Manager when you are interested in a promotion so they can work with each person individually on their career progression. If you need further assistance outside of your Store Manager or District Manager, please reach out to HR@MudBay.com.

Pros

When I first started at MudBay, I was so happy to be somewhere that I genuinely loved working. The company is very focused on education over sales, and for the most part I loved all of my team mates. Good pay for retail.

Cons

Their hiring process leaves a lot to be desired. The store managers are not involved at all, it lies solely on recruiting. So if someone's personality is not a good fit for your store specifically, too bad. Getting anything done takes FOREVER. They also tend to hire for higher up positions externally instead of promoting from within.

Thank you for your review. We pride ourselves on the training and education we provide to our team members, and are happy to hear that you loved your time in stores. Store managers and store teams are involved in the hiring process for the majority of our positions at the store level, except for staff members. We select the best-qualified candidate for the role based on their skills and experience. All Muddies are eligible to apply for any position in the company, whether in stores or at the Home Office. Candidates with the qualifications and experience required for that position are invited to interview. Store Managers and department heads are also happy to have career conversations with Muddies who would like to grow their skills and experience in anticipation of movement within the company in order to help them prepare for such roles.

Pros

Team oriented, and employee owned! They really care about customers, employees, and the pets we served. Very holistic and cares about everyone.

Cons

I honestly can't think of any downsides. I loved working there so much, the only reason I quit was because I moved somewhere a Mud Bay wasn't nearby.
