Pros

The work life balance at NASA is incredible. In the branches where I have worked, creativity is fostered, and the people are good to one another.

Cons

Money. The salary is low for a comparable job, but more than that, funding is hard to get in the federal government. Some projects flounder and die from being starved to death.

Pros

Workforce is very smart. Most exciting mission of all government agencies, and very easy to be excited to come to work everyday.

Cons

Headquarters is full of managers. Actual leaders have either retired, left, or were chased out. Used to enjoy a close-knit, family-friendly workplace but has grown cold and impersonal. Stealing credit, back-stabbing, and leaving a body count in the process will get you fast tracked to SES level. Due to bureaucracy and incompetent managers, NASA will be irrelevant once the commercial space and space tourism industries are established, but this is also because NASA's mission is carefully managed by the Congressional members who have a NASA center in their state. Therefore technology and innovation only goes at the speed that the workforces in Huntsville, Houston, and Goddard can handle. If your state has a more capable aerospace workforce but would have to compete with the states of those three centers, then you're just out of luck.
