Pros

Will have a low pressure work environment where team work is a major virtue and everyone is working toward the same goal. Plenty of support at all levels to help you succeed.

Cons

Pay lower than some private sector positions. Some days will be slower than others. Where there is no profit driver, some dullards will survive performance reviews and be a bore to work with.

Pros

Great people to be around, adequate facilities and funding (when I was there), flexible work schedule. A large amount of high quality research being done by peers created an inspiring atmosphere

Cons

Lots of red tape, unnecessary paperwork, government hoops to jump through when trying to advance projects. Not that much interaction between different subgroups other than very very large center-wide seminars
