Very steady career even in the most uncertain times. When much of the world was in crisis DoD workers, such as myself, did not have to added stress of losing our jobs and sources of income. Benefits cannot be beat. It is very rare to receive a pension these days.

Cons

You will always be paid more in the private sector.
