Pros

The other account managers and the mailroom staff made this role tolerable. Also, the cleaning lady was very friendly and always made it a point to say hello. The benefits weren't bad, but weren't great. (but that's typical nowadays)

Cons

This was THE worst job I have had in my professional career. They were short-staffed when I was hired and the training was pretty much a joke. The person I reported to in mid-market accounts (would not call them a manager) knew training was an issue and stated a few times they knew it was needed but did not have the time. It only made matters worse. One of the Account Executives I worked with was a control freak and I was warned of their behavior ealry on. When emails needed to be sent to their clients, they typed them up in advance and sent them to me to be sent to the client. They also did this for other people in the company as well. The person I reported to was so condescending - I have never been spoken down to the way they spoke to me; they should be ashamed of themselves. NFP in NYC is very cliquey, including upper management. And it is sad because there are a lot of smart, mature, articulate people that work there. Sadly, their efforts go unnoticed. Speaking of upper management, several VP's walked by my desk several times a day. One would think they would speak or at the very least, show a smile - even if it's fake. Yes, they are busy but no one starts at the top and they seem to have forgotten that. The HR staff for the most part was always supportive and helpful, except for one of the recruiters who often share and laughed at potential candidate profiles with other employees. Not very professional. Parting ways with NFP was best for me. I gave upper management one star because I had to give something. If you are looking for an account management role, save yourself and your time and apply somewhere else.
