Pros

Love the people, the atmosphere. Love the fact that we are supporting something so meaningful

Cons

Certain managers (and this is a systematic problem government wide) that focus on promotion based on "time in grade" rather than job performance.

Pros

Higher salary than other university positions. Work environment is great with full access to high-tech equipment in laboratories.

Cons

Less pressure on working...independent but low productivity. Some PIs are horrible.

Pros

Rich funding, many opportunities for collaboration

Cons

Staff Scientist position is not great. It sounds convenient system, but it is just designed to keep talented scientist for Principal Investigator (PI). If you want to be a real independent as scientist, you need to leave Staff position and become PI.
