Pros

Had an opportunity to work on some research I may not have gotten to work on had I not been at NIH. The OITE has great seminars and guest speakers open to the general NIH body Network with other interns, program directors, and PI's through the institutes

Cons

Can get mundane and boring doing repetitive research Kind of keep to yourself when it comes to research Best way for getting to know others is outside the office/lab

Pros

Collaborations are very easy to come by, and there are a lot of resources at the NIH like career development classes or seminars.

Cons

The campus is very spread out so going to seminars can actually take a big chunk of time out of your day if you have to travel across campus or to different locations. Government red tape slows things down considerably which makes it hard at times to remain competitive with non-government institutions.
