Pros

-Great work/life balance -Embraces/encourages diversity -Flexibility to change teams -Health benefits are decent (but premiums not always covered) -Enjoyed my manager and team. That extends to most of the staff

Cons

-Org is top-heavy w/ managers and not enough staff underneath to complete tasks efficiently -There is a disconnect between upper-management understanding what staff does. Bc of this, they can’t properly advocate for work or set proper boundaries for what can/cannot be competes to NPR’s station-owner stakeholders -Current re-org going on in which management is in bargaining with the Digital Media United union (made up of NPR staff). This has created an undercurrent of discontent within staff and takes key members away from their work. -Temporary contracts (some lasting 6+ months with little to no job security) and pay inequalities are commonplace

Pros

Great reporters, great listeners. As an editor, you'll work with some of the smartest newsroom staff in the business, tireless reporters, lovely freelancers, eager cubs. The work is meaningful and the audience is the best in the news business.

Cons

Terrible newsroom management. Incomprehensible how they are still in their jobs, especially after so much talent has left the newsroom. There is some house cleaning going on, but not enough. Also needs to happen in Programming - esp at the top.

Pros

The mission, the people are so smart and so thoughtful, there are lots of opportunities to be creative and do work outside of your role.

Cons

Financially very responsive to the market, feels chronically understaffed and overworked, and career ladders and upward mobility feel like a very opaque process.
