Pros

Great pay and benefits, sharp colleagues, and a corporate commitment to sustainability. Your contributions are noted (both positive and negative) and people are expected to consistently perform at their best. A great environment if this type of atmosphere appeals to you- there aren't any slackers here. Management is generally open to trying new technologies or work processes provided the business benefits make sense and you are willing to take the initiative/ put in the effort to see it through.

Cons

Never know how the market is going to react to various corporate decisions, but things appear to be moving in the right direction after a number of shakeups and acquisitions

Not a good cultural fit

Pros

- Learned about the renewable energy industry - Worked with some very smart, caring individuals - Leaders do see the benefit of solar and renewable energy technologies - Offers all main benefits of large corporations

Cons

- Was given the "bait and switch" with job opportunity - NRG acquires companies without any (visible) strategy for how to handle the employees or cultural differences. This creates fragmented teams and an unaligned vision across business units. - No tolerance for raising your hand for projects or for brainstorming/disagreeing with the status quo - Large, slow, rigid and extremely political - Culture of "good ole boys" club in Houston - Poor middle management across many functional teams - Little room or opportunity for personal growth and development

Pros

They pay higher than average for the industry.

Cons

They pay higher than average for the industry, but only because it is the most effective way to keep everyone’s nose down, tolerate egotistical VPs and screaming & cussing HR directors (they call themselves “talent and culture” lol). Too big to fail- it’s all about the stock price. Nearly every power plant NRG owns and operates for other owners are understaffed such that personnel spend more time at work than away, but fear of being replaced in the name of “the energy grid comes first” and all the threats, lies, promises, that keep one beholden to them. Why are all the VPs millionaires off the sweat of the real workers? Distributing, repeating, and lecturing on policies is really not worth their bloated salaries.
