Pros
They offered me a great job with decent pay, and helped me find housing with other Temporary Field Technicians (TFTs).
Cons
They offered me the job at the end of March, 2021. My offer was contingent on possessing "a current and valid State issued driver’s license with insurable Department of Motor vehicle record (parking violations, minor driving offenses excluded) as determined by Battelle’s insurance provider." In late May, 2021, they rescinded my offer, one week before my start date. I had already spend hundreds of dollars on airfare, gear, and had signed a lease for the whole summer. I'd stopped applying to other jobs and had turned down several opportunities since accepting this job. I was told that my offer was rescinded because I was uninsurable and thus unemployable. This was apparently because of the two speeding tickets on my driving record, one from 3 and a half years ago, the other from 2 years and 9 months ago. Speeding tickets are universally categorized as minor driving offenses (which, according to my offer letter, do not impact the insurability of my record). I can get private insurance just fine and have been insured and driven for past employers, so this made zero sense. My supervisors could not talk to me on the phone or respond to my emails. They could only tell me to talk to Battelle's HR. HR could only tell me that this was the policy, and they were just following the policy. They would give me no information about what the actual policies or requirements are to be insured and hired, or how they were able to revoke employment over terms/requirements that the prospective employee was never made aware of. Overall, this is the most opaque, draconian organization I have ever dealt with. Utterly bizarre and horrifying policies and treatment of employees. I honestly don't even understand how this is legal. Stay far, far away!
