Pros

Interesting work. Lots of opportunities. Govie benefits.

Cons

Politics are terrible. Couldn't get mid-level management to understand impacts of poor decisions or the reasons to make an informed decision. Good ol' boy network. Promotions based on who, not what, you know and reflects in management decision process. Contractor input put before 40 years govie experience.

Pros

Good benefits, interesting mission, good access to learning/training to progress career, good people (for the most part).

Cons

Mission position window can keep you in a position you don't like for a few years (but those are gone as of 2020). Promotions are based on yearly review and time in grade matters, so a high-performing employee in a role for 1 year has no chance of promotion against an average employee in the role for 10 years.
