Pros

Flex time/ work from home option and overall benefits package. Offered good training opportunities.

Cons

Solid performance is not rewarded through comparable compensation. Performance management is done by members of the organization who in some cases have no professional relationship to you. Everything is all about "perceived" performance and heresay. A tendency of HR to look the other way. Too many fall guys for upper management's poor decisions.

Pros

Unfortunately there are no real pros until you hit mid management, at which point stock and profit sharing become part of your package. Until then There are no "pros" to working at National Grid USA.

Cons

Pay is significantly lower than private industry market level for most employees, speaking for engineers, analysts, project managers, and communications. The company goes through a "purge" roughly every four years at this point, and lays off a large portion of the employees. Upper management has a very one way street approach to communication, with the information that is filtered down abstract, non-committal, and usually only involving how poor performance has been.

Pros

It's a large company. It is a good place to work for younger workers starting their career. If you show initiative and drive, you will likely be given opportunities to advance. The benefit package is very competitive.

Cons

National Grid is a very frustrating place to work for anyone who has been there for a while. Constant churn of leadership and a trend to fill leadership positions with people who do not know the fundamentals of the business. The company has a hard time getting basic work done while new executives try to build their reputations with new "innovative" ideas. Innovation is great, but you still need to keep the shop open, the lights on, and the gas flowing. Seems we can't do that anymore. Nobody is going to get rewarded for doing the core business well and efficiently. I don't think leadership could even recognize it when it happens.
