Pros

I have been employed by National Grid for over 10 years and I have had a varied and challenging career whilst under their employment. Positives: Great office spaces, excellent people, competitive rates of pay, positive work-life balance.

Cons

Staff bonuses are poor but have improved since introducing performance related pay increases and bonus award. Getting to, and parking in, Warwick can be a struggle. Lots of contractors employed to do things that the directly employed could do.

Pros

Great co-workers and interesting work. Pay and benefits are excellent. There's always opportunity for learning and career development. Promotion and hiring from within is always a priority. The company definitely puts its best foot forward to try and and keep its employees happy. Working in downtown Syracuse has been fantastic as well.

Cons

The workforce generally is old, and some remaining Niagara Mohawk employees like to complaint about the current state of affairs. It's gets old hearing about "the good old days from the good old boys." National Grid likes to flex its corporate muscles and re-organize quite frequently. You come across a fair amount of bureaucracy, which is expected. Bonuses are primarily driven by performance, which is linked to hitting project deliverable dates. While I agree meeting dates is important, you often find that projects are rushed and submitted incomplete, just to meet certain dates.
